Jaber
Al SABAH

Jaber Mohammad A M Al Sabah is a well-rounded student-athlete who engages in school sports such as Volleyball and Basketball, where he learned true physical discipline. These activities assisted his role of most importance to him, public service, where Jaber helps support families in need in Kuwait and abroad in areas such as the Philippines.

My Story

Jaber’s love for public service stemmed from his grandfather, Sheikh Abdullah Al-Mubarak of Kuwait, in which he developed urbanization plans for Kuwait and provided equal opportunities. This was then taught to Jaber by his father, where he now wants to pursue a life of decision making in the political sector, along with his full devotion of service to his country.

To demonstrate leadership in and out of school, Jaber has engaged in a wide spectrum of activities. He is the CEO of Sard, a speaker series, which is similar to TedX Talks, in high school with peers and is sponsored by Kuwait International Bank, which also supports major sporting events such as Kuwait Marathon. Sard gathered over 140,000 impressions on instagram between June 1 and July 1, 2024. Jaber has also been a lead advocate in changing his International school’s Student Leadership Council and Senior Committee to integrate the needs of Kuwaitis and non-kuwaitis alike, where he will be running for president for both in his senior year (2024-25). Jaber’s family has lived in England, where they prioritized education. This is why he attended Oxford Summer Courses, a program in Somerville College where he studied International Relations for two weeks. Jaber then used the theory of expanding knowledge through tutoring students in his class for over 20 hours, where he taught them subjects such as math, microeconomics, macroeconomics, 20th century world history, and physics.

Jaber’s skill in memorization along with his prioritization to know more about different cultures has also enabled him to memorize 40 pages of the Quran when he was 13, in which he participated in a national Quran memorization tournament where he received 1st place. Additionally, Jaber has participated in many sporting activities in school, such as volleyball and basketball after losing 60kg (130lbs), which has taught him to be disciplined both physically and mentally.

Furthermore, Jaber’s love for public service and giving back to the community is evident in his philanthropic initiatives to families worldwide, where he supported certain families’ education. Jaber has also presented the dire need of political reform in Kuwait with policies regarding the oil and petroleum sector, in which he presented solutions to diversify and alleviate Kuwait’s costs through the use of photovoltaic energy in his op-ed in the Kuwait Times “Harnessing the Sun”.

Jaber’s love for politics originated when he shadowed his father when he was the Minister of Cabinet Affairs, where he also engaged in conversation with the Minister of Youth Affairs, Mr. Khaled Al Roudhan. This then saw Jaber advise him on soccer players to bring over to Kuwait in order to fulfill a project supported by the late Amir, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad AlSabah. The advice Jaber gave Mr. AlRoudhan was implemented the year after, where they brought players such as Didier Drogba and Luka Modric.

Looking ahead, Jaber is committed to using his time and talents wisely to make a positive impact on the world through public service. Through securing a world class education in college, he aims to assemble the necessary knowledge and resources to transform the future of diplomacy.
