Jason
KUO
Jason Kuo is studying at BASIS Silicon Valley High School, was born in the US but spent a majority of his childhood in Taiwan, his parents’ home country. He has since returned to the US but thinks often about his life there, and how different conditions and life is in the US and Taiwan.
My Story
He has realized that his life was forever changed when his parents moved from Taiwan to the US in the search of better educational opportunities. Recognizing his good fortune, Jason has always tried to help others with less access to the same educational opportunities.
As such, Jason is committed to civic participation. He is an officer for his school’s debate club, helping newer students learn the fundamentals of the activity. His passion for debate and helping others has pushed him to teach at non-profits. Jason has taught over 50 students for more than 50 hours, with the goal of helping underprivileged debaters. Jason is also interested in economics, competing in the National Economics Challenge and placing in State Finals.
In the future, Jason wants to study Politics, Law, or Economics in university, and he is interested in the real world interactions between them. His ultimate goal is to work with his local government to implement common sense climate policies in his area, like low emission zones, a large-scale shuttle bus service, and walk-only areas. Currently, Jason is developing his organization Transportation for Tomorrow, a youth effort to advance eco-friendly transit, low-emission zones, and community youth initiatives for a smarter, more sustainable world.
